AGENDA | Landmarks program
The Sacred Landmarks Program will be Sept. 19 in Beeghly Hall at Youngstown State University. The cost is $20 per person. Register by Friday at the Center for Urban and Regional Studies, YSU, One University Plaza, Youngstown 44555.
8-9 a.m.: Registration and breakfast.
9-9:20 a.m.: Introductory remarks by YSU President Dr. David C. Sweet and Hunter Morrison, director of YSU's Center for Urban and Regional Studies.
9:20-10:15 a.m.: John Nottingham, co-president, Nottingham-Spirk Design Inc. of Cleveland. Presentation: "Rebirth of a Sacred Landmark Into an Innovation Center."
10:15-10:30 a.m.: Break.
10:30-11:10 a.m.: The Rev. John Horner, pastor, St. John's Episcopal Church, Youngstown. Presentation: "The Excitement of Smoky Hollow; the Promise of a New Neighborhood."
11:10-11:50 a.m.: The Rev. Edward Noga, pastor, St. Patrick Church, Youngstown. Presentation: "Stained Glass and the School Class."
11:50 a.m.-1 p.m.: Lunch.
1-1:40 p.m.: Daria Gasparini, program associate for the Cleveland Restoration Society's Sacred Landmarks Assistance Program. Presentation: "Advocacy and Assistance: The CRS Sacred Landmarks Program."
1:40-2:20 p.m.: Doug Hoffman, a partner of Weber Murphy Fox Architects in Cleveland and managing editor of Faith & amp; Form magazine. Presentation: "Seeking the Sacred."
2:20-3 p.m.: James Whitney of Cleveland, an expert in restoring stained glass windows. Presentation: "What's Wrong With my Windows?"
3-3:15 p.m.: Break.
3:15-3:55: Dr. Susan Whitelaw, professor emeritus at Wayne State University in Detroit. Presentation: "The Art of Romeo Celleghin: Cleveland's Legacy."
3:55-4:45 p.m.: Dr. Larry Ledebur, professor of urban studies at Cleveland State University. Presentation: "Adaptive Reuse: Sacred to Secular."
4:45-6 p.m.: Reception with a presentation of the high school and junior high winners of the Sacred Landmark Scholastic Art Award and their artworks.
