The teenagers were leaving his property when the man opened fire.
MERCER, Pa. -- A man who shot at two teenagers walking on his property was placed on one year's probation and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Judge Michael Wherry of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Dwight Gill, 60, of Kennard-Osgood Road, Greenville, for misdemeanor harassment. Charges of recklessly endangering another person and stalking were dropped.
On July 10, 2002, according to court records, a boy and girl, both 16, were walking in a field near Gill's home. He cursed at them, complaining that youths were always walking on his property and told them that if they didn't get out of his crops, he would shoot them.
The two reported that Gill went into his trailer, came out with a rifle and fired three or four shots at them. They said they were leaving when he fired the shots and they heard bullets hitting the ground near them. They went to the girl's home and reported the episode to her father.
Sex case
Other sentences handed down Thursday were:
Kirk White, 30, of Ormond Street, Sharon, received one to five years in prison for corruption of minors and indecent exposure, both misdemeanors. According to court records, on Feb. 1 he tried to engage in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl while she was unconscious at a home in Farrell.
Joseph Boulware, 31, of the Mercer County Jail received one to three years in prison and was ordered to pay $3,000 restitution for felony aggravated assault and driving during suspension. On Jan. 12, according to records, he intentionally struck a woman with his car in Hermitage, causing her serious injuries. When the attack occurred, his driver's license was suspended because he drove under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Damon Hopson, 39, of Washington Street, Farrell, received two years' probation for misdemeanor theft for stealing $116 from a restaurant in East Lackawannock Township last December.
Theft, forgery, drugs
Brad Laverty, 24, of Weitz Avenue, Farrell, received a sentence of three months in the Intermediate Punishment Program and four years' probation for theft from a motor vehicle, forgery and possessing drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors. He was also ordered to make restitution.
According to records, last October and November, he smashed windows out of nine parked vehicles and cut holes in the canvas roofs of two cars, all in Hermitage and West Middlesex. He also passed 10 forged checks totaling $685 at two stores in Hermitage and forged a signature on a Sears credit card slip for $212. Laverty was also caught with three pipes and other items associated with cocaine use.
Michael McMillan, 50, of Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell, was sentenced to six to 24 months in jail for misdemeanor receiving stolen property, a camera and miscellaneous items, taken from a Farrell home in January 2002.
Terrance E. Parkinson, Jr., 28, of Wallis Avenue, Farrell, was placed on six years' probation for two counts of simple assault and one count of resisting arrest, all misdemeanors. On June 26, according to records, he tried to head-butt a Pennsylvania State trooper while the trooper and several officers from the Greenville-West Salem Police Department were transporting him to the Greenville lockup.
On the same day, he struck a woman several times, choked her, hit her in the face and kicked her in the ribs, causing bruises and cuts. He also punched a man, splitting his nose open. Those assaults took place at the Willow Bend Trailer Park, Lackawannock Township.
Terroristic threats
Robert Wagner, 34, of Baldwin Avenue, Sharon, was sentenced to probation for three years for making terroristic threats, a misdemeanor. On May 8, according to court documents, he grabbed a woman by the throat, placed his hand over her mouth and kicked her leg. He also threatened to kill a Sharon police officer. The episode took place at Wagner's home.
