Pathologist wins award
Dr. Jacqueline A. Wieneke, a staff pathologist at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, is the recipient of the John Hill Brinton Award for 2003.
She won the award as primary author of the article "Adrenal Cortical Neoplasms in the Pediatric Population," accepted for publication in the American Journal of Surgical Pathology in June.
The award is named for the first curator of the Army Medical Museum.
Dr. Wieneke, formerly of Poland, is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Karl F. Wieneke of Poland.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Georgetown University, completed a one-year diploma program at the London School of Economics in London, England, then returned to Georgetown's school of medicine.
There, she completed four years at Georgetown University Medical Center in the department of pathology.
She came to the AFIP in 1997 in the department of endocrine and otorhinolaryngic head and neck pathology.
After a year of practice, she returned to the AFIP in 1999, where she has remained as a staff pathologist.
She and her husband, Dr. Kerry DeGroot, have two sons, Christian, 4, and Pieter, 2, and live in Bethesda, Md.

OSU veterinary degree
Dr. Michele Lynn Dangaran, daughter of Dr. Artemio J. and Marjorie Dangaran of Warren, has earned her doctorate degree in veterinary medicine from Ohio State University.
Dr. Dangaran passed the December 2002 National Board Examination for the license to practice veterinary medicine.
She is now affiliated with the Guernsey Veterinary Clinic, Cambridge, Ohio.
She is a 1988 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, earned her bachelor's degree as a biology major from Hiram College in 1992, and graduated with an associate degree in veterinary technology from Columbus State College in 1996.
She worked for seven years as a veterinary technician in Animal Care Unlimited Veterinary Hospital, Dublin, Ohio.
