SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITIES
Alzheimer's Association: Volunteers needed to help with the association's Oct. 11 Memory Walk. People needed for set up, registration and distribution of goods.
Beatitude House: People needed to help with the annual family picnic, Saturday, and the organization's golf outing, Sept. 28.
Camp Fire USA: Volunteers needed to help the fall environmental program to be instructors and to assist with activities.
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: People needed to help with set up, registration and refreshments at the foundation's Great Strides Walk-A-Thon on Sept. 20.
CAN YOU HELP?
Long-term volunteer help also is needed for these agencies:
Citizen Corps: People are trained to assist their community when there is a disaster. They will help first responders, answer telephones, assemble emergency kits and help with the distribution of food, water and clothing.
Greenbriar Healthcare Center: Volunteers needed to help with crafts, parties and outings and to do room visits.
Help Hotline Crisis Center: Training begins Oct. 4 for people interested in providing phone information, referrals and crisis intervention.
Homeless Solutions/Meridian Services: Two people needed to serve as office receptionists.
Immaculate Conception School: Volunteers needed to help with serving lunch, lunchroom supervision, playground supervision and tutoring in math and reading.
K'9's for Compassion: People needed to assist with animal therapy and related activities.
Mahoning Council for Retarded Citizens: Volunteers needed to help with bingo and the adult dance on the first and third Fridays of each month.
Mahoning River Education Project: People needed to help educate middle-school children about the Mahoning River. Training provided.
Mary Haddow School: Tutors needed for grades kindergarten through five and special education. No experience or training required.
Pablo Picasso Academy: Carpenters, roofers and painters needed. People also needed for general labor and cleaning. There also will be a need for volunteers to help children with an after-school program.
RSVP: Volunteers are needed to help with bulk mailings and other community projects, including Citizen Corps.
Shepherd of the Valley: People needed to become part of the Caring Partners program in the company's Boardman, Poland, Niles and Howland locations. They will be paired with residents to provide emotional support and care.
United Way: Volunteers needed for public relations and campaigning work as well as performing office clerical duties.
Volunteer Service to Seniors: People needed to assist with activities such as grocery shopping, rides to the doctor, visits and reassurance calls.
