Wheatland leader reports progress in strike talks
WHEATLAND, Pa. -- Some progress was made in five hours of federally mediated negotiations Wednesday between Wheatland Tube Co. and the striking United Steelworkers Union Local 1660, said Bill Kerins, company vice president of operations.
"We're waiting for the union to respond to some issues we presented. That'll determine the next step," Kerins said. No specific time has been set for talks to resume, he said. About 470 union members have been on strike against the company since April 28 in a dispute over health care and retirement benefits.
