McDONALD -- Village council unanimously agreed Wednesday to support extending the 2001 steel tariffs.
McDonald Mayor James W. Border said council was asked by United Steelworkers Local 1375 to sponsor a resolution to President Bush urging him to continue the tariffs.
The International Trade Commission concluded that American steel companies and related industries were injured when foreign steel was illegally dumped and sold below production costs in the United States. Bush responded by placing tariffs on certain types of foreign steel, and the tariffs are due to expire.
