MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County commissioners have accepted the lower of two bids for paving at the county agriculture extension office on Pa. Route 19.
Landfried Paving Inc., of Transfer, bid $55,000, more than $5,000 below the only other bid from Campbell's Asphalt Products, Grove City.
Commissioners also indicated they are considering using the current county jail for archives storage once the new jail is complete.
Commissioner Olivia Lazor said a portion of the jail will still be needed for holding cells for prisoners who have court appearances, but the remainder of the building has more space than the one used for archives at the old county living center complex.
Lazor said the Mercer County Historical Society has indicated it could help maintain the archives if moved to the old jail.
The discussion followed questions from Prothonotary Elizabeth Fair, who said she needs more space to store all the records the state requires her to save.
Accepted grants
Commissioners accepted two grants from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for continuation of the Victim/Witness program for victims of juvenile and adult offenders.
The grants are for $56,812 for the adult program and $29,456 for the juvenile program.
William McKnight of Grove City was reappointed to a five-year term on the Industrial Development Authority board.
Commissioners also congratulated the Munnell Run Farm Foundation, Inc. for receiving the 2003 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence in Education and Outreach.
