CANFIELD -- Raymond Beiersdorfer, a Youngstown State University geology professor, pleaded no contest Friday in Mahoning County Court to a charge of disorderly conduct.
Beiersdorfer, 46, of Bradley Lane, was fined $50. He was apprehended Thursday afternoon at the Canfield Fairgrounds after exposing his buttocks in the presence of about a dozen young people in the 4-H barn, police said.
Canfield Fairgrounds Police Lt. Terry Alexander said Beiersdorfer was charged with disorderly conduct, rather than public indecency, because his genitalia were not exposed.
14-bed MVH facility opens
WARREN -- Mahoning Valley Hospital cut the ribbon this morning, officially opening its 14-bed facility on the ninth floor of Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
MVH is a transitional care program that has been serving patients in Youngstown since 1999. It focuses on ventilator patients, complex wounds, kidney failure, post-surgical complications, heart disease and stroke.
The lease arrangement for space in Trumbull Memorial will add 20 jobs to the MVH payroll, officials said.
Domestic violence
HUBBARD -- A Hubbard Township man was to be arraigned today in Girard Municipal Court on a charge of domestic violence.
He is accused of shaking his 15-month-old son, police said.
Dallas L. Widdersheim, 34, of Rosedale Drive, was arrested about 8:30 a.m. Friday after police received a 911 call.
The boy was treated at Tod Children's Hospital in Youngstown.
Youngstown man arrested
HUBBARD -- Roy Moreno, 22, of Charlotte Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested Friday by Hubbard Township police on charges stemming from a June 23 burglary on Chestnut Ridge Road.
Detective Michael Begeo said Moreno is the second suspect charged; another man was indicted last month.
Italian classes offered
Italian classes will be offered at several locations beginning this month and running through mid-December. Level I and II classes will take place Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 15 at St. Charles Church in Boardman and Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 16 at St. Vincent de Paul church in Vienna. Level I classes will be offered Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 17 at Blessed Sacrament Church, Warren. For more information, call Lio Comichista at (330) 545-1545.
Police contract talks
AUSTINTOWN -- Township trustees will have a meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the township building, 82 Ohltown Road. On the agenda is a planned executive session, with the trustees having negotiations with police department representatives on a new contract.
Auction to benefit kids
BAZETTA -- The Summer Enrichment Program for Handicapped Children of Trumbull County will have a benefit Chinese auction from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 13. The event will be at Candlelite Knolls at 2619 Hoagland-Blackstub Road, just north of the Warren bypass off state Route 5, between Carter Lumber and Valley Pontiac. About 300 items will be up for auction, including gift certificates, gift baskets, crafts and more. Refreshments will be available. Proceeds go to the enrichment program, a local nonprofit organization coordinated and funded by parents through private donations and fund-raisers.
Heritage Festival events
WARREN -- The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will offer two programs during next month's Heritage Festival.
Musician Frank Warren will perform fiddle music during a family presentation at 11 a.m. Sept. 20. Author James Cash will discuss "Ohioans in the White House," giving a modern appraisal of the state's eight presidents at 2 p.m. Sept. 20.
The program is in cooperation with the Ohio Humanities Council. The Sutliff Museum, on the library's second floor, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the festival weekend.
The main library will be closed for regular business during the Heritage Festival, but branch locations will be open.
Perry Township flooding
SALEM -- Monday's steady rain produced flooding in Perry Township, police reported. High water entered state Route 45 near South Lincoln Avenue. Flooding also was reported on the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue and on the 1800 block of North Egypt Road, police said. The high water was reported around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Church garage burglary
SALEM -- Someone broke into the Methodist Church garage at 244 S. Broadway Ave., police reported. The only item missing appears to be a 2-gallon gas can. The break-in was reported around 10 a.m. Friday, police said.
