INDIANS Catalanotto helps Toronto cruise past Cleveland, 9-3

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cory Lidle aimed down the middle, while Frank Catalanotto set his sights for the right-field fence.
Lidle got his first win in more than a month and Catalanotto hit a three-run homer as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Cleveland Indians 9-3 on Saturday night.
"We had a lot of opportunities and finally broke through," said Catalanotto, who hit the second pitch thrown by reliever Rafael Betancourt into the Blue Jays' bullpen in right field for his 11th homer.
That capped a four-run sixth inning and gave Toronto a 5-1 lead.
"I never faced him before, so I figured he would throw a fastball -- and he did," Catalanotto said. "It feels great to hit it out in that situation."
Good pitching
Lidle (12-11), in his second start since missing three weeks with a strained left groin, got his first win since July 25. He allowed two runs and five hits over 6 1-3 innings to improve to 3-0 with a 1.54 career ERA at Jacobs Field.
"I threw aggressively for the middle of the plate and my ball was moving to the corners," Lidle said. "I had good movement and was still able to throw strikes."
The right-hander said he was relieved after allowing only one run when Cleveland had the bases loaded and no outs in the third.
"I got them to hit two grounders to get out of it and that was big," said Lidle, who induced the Indians to hit into three double plays.
Lidle walked one and struck out two as he improved to 4-8 over 14 starts since June 1 after beginning the season 8-2.
Josh Towers gave up one run over the final 22/3 innings and earned his first career save.
"It looked like we were tired and there's no tired in baseball," Indians manager Eric Wedge said. "A lot of our young players are at a stage in the season they have never been at -- but they have to reach down and work through it."
Breaking it open
Reed Johnson's hit-and-run single off Jake Westbrook (6-8) scored Chris Woodward from second base to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth.
Woodward hit a one-out single and Kevin Cash was safe when third baseman Casey Blake misplayed his grounder for an error.
"Those plays happen, but don't forget the defense really picked me up, too," said Westbrook, who got three double plays to work out of jams in the first four innings.
Both runners broke on the first pitch as Johnson stuck out his bat and poked an outside pitch through the hole between first and second to score Woodward. Woodward put Toronto ahead 1-0 with a two-out RBI single in the second.
Two Cleveland runs scored on fielder's choice groundouts -- by Coco Crisp in the third and Matt Lawton in the seventh. Lawton drove in another run with a groundout in the ninth.
Carlos Delgado got his AL-leading 121st RBI with a sacrifice fly, Mike Bordick had a two-run pinch single and Woodward added an RBI single in a four-run eighth off Terry Mulholland.
Westbrook allowed three earned runs and eight hits over 51/3 innings. He struck out two and walked a season-high six.
Notes
Blue Jays 3B Eric Hinske hit his 38th double -- matching his 2002 total when he was AL Rookie of the Year. He did it in 51 fewer games.
Indians SS Omar Vizquel got a standing ovation after turning a bad hop into a double play in the fourth. He also grounded into two DPs.
Delgado went 2-for-3 and is 6-for-8 in the series.
Cleveland rookie 2B Brandon Phillips went 0-for-2 in his return after missing two games with a bruised right wrist. He was hit by a pitch Wednesday night. The road team has won each of the last nine meetings in the series since the Blue Jays won in Toronto on Oct. 6, 2001.
