CROSS COUNTRY McDonald, Kunkel 2nd at Maplewood



Maplewood won the girls title without having anyone place in the top 10.
CORTLAND -- Joe Kunkel took second place in 16 minutes, 55.9 seconds as he helped McDonald finish second in the Maplewood Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Maplewood High School.
Ashtabula Edgewood won the boys division with 46 points, McDonald had 55 and Maplewood finished third with 77.
Chris Rupe of the Rockets placed fourth (17:17.1) and Jason Corman of the Blue Devils was fifth (17:18.9).
Luke McCluggage of Jackson-Milton won the 3.1 mile run in 16:52.5.
Maplewood girls win
Although it didn't have anyone place in the top 10, Maplewood captured the girls title with 95 points.
Ashtabula Lakeside was second with 105, Burton Berkshire was third with 108 and McDonald was fourth with 128.
Mallory Dragon of Lakeside took first place in the run in 19 minutes, 03.7 seconds.
Freshman Kristin Gibbs of Maplewood was 12th (21:51.5) and teammate Christan Humphrey was 17th (22:08.8).
Madison Invitational
MADISON -- Poland junior Colleen Moran placed first at the Madison Invitational with a time of 20:08 to lead the Bulldogs to the girls team title.
Kim Brogan placed 10th with a time of 21:54 for Poland, which edged Painesville Riverside 50-51. Pymatuning Valley was third with 122 points.
Poland's Lauren Fithian (21:51) was 11th overall, followed by teammates Molly Noll (12th, 21:58), Heather Patrick (16th, 22:03), Gina Lubonovic (23:36) and Melinda Bolton (24:20).
Poland's boys team placed sixth. The Bulldogs were led by Mark Schroedel, who was 26th,the time of 19:05. Other Poland finishers were Jay Brogan (34th, 19:27), Bobby Herold (41st, 19:43, Tim Sutcliffe (56th, 20:20) and Bryan Stefek (67th, 20:21).
Dave Clegg Invitational
NORTH CANTON -- Brittany Durkin of Boardman High took second place in 19 minutes, 51 seconds in Division I of the Dave Clegg Invitational.
Jenna Yeakel of Canton GlenOak won the run (19:44).
Jackson took team honors with 46 points. Boardman was eighth with 221.
In Div. I boys, Wooster took team honors with 24 points. Salem was fourth with 120 and Boardman was fifth with 155.
Almon Scullion of the Quakers placed 11th (17:23).
Dan Nemergut placed fourth out of 98 runners with a time of 17:27 to lead South Range to a sixth place finish in Division II in the Dave Clegg Invitational.
Nick Hankins of Orange placed first with a time of 16:47. Minerva won the team title.
Doug Miller (18:52) was 33rd for the Raiders, followed by Chad Fusco (36th, 19:10), Mike Kenney (45th, 19:51), Luke Wellman (52nd, 20:05) and Dan Schuler (60th, 20:31).
In the girls race, Andra Sanders placed second with a time of 21:08 for South Range, which ran in the open race. Strongsville's Carolyn Minnick was first with a time of 20:47.
South Range's Kelci Witmer (22:08) was fifth and Danielle Downie (24:49) was 51st.
