BUCKEYE NOTES From The Horseshoe

Louis plays: Ursuline High graduate Louis Irizarry saw his first action in Ohio State's sixth possession of the game. Irizarry returned the lineup in the fourth quarter, but couldn't come up with a pass from back-up quarterback Scott McMullen.
So does Datish: Howland High's Doug Datish, who was redshirted last season, made his Buckeye debut in the final two minutes of the game.
And Zwick, too: Justin Zwick made his Buckeye debut in the final minutes of the game. Zwick, the younger brother of former Youngstown State quarterback Jared Zwick, played at Massillon Washington and was the most-highly recruited quarterback in Ohio since Art Schlichter.
Alternating backs: In Maurice Clarett's absence, the Buckeyes used Maurice Hall and Lydell Ross at tailback. The two alternated every two series in the first half.
No. 3 crowd: The attendance of 105,078 was the third-largest in Ohio Stadium history.
Single-minded attack: To start the second half, Washington passed on 16 consecutive plays before Rich Alexis gained 9 yards on a draw.
Won-loss numbers: With the victory, Ohio State improved to 98-12-4 all-time in season openers, 6-0 in night games at Ohio Stadium and 6-0 when "ESPN College Gameday" has originated from Columbus. The Buckeyes are 747-292-53 all-time.
