NEW YORK-PENN MV rolls 5-0 over 'Birds

ABERDEEN, Md. -- Joe Weaver and Honeudis Pereyra combined on a three-hitter, facing just two over the minimum, as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers blanked the Aberdeen IronBirds 5-0 in the New York-Penn League Friday.
Mike Conroy led the Mahoning Valley attack by going 3-for-5 at the plate. He drove in four runs and hit his seventh homer of the season.
Brad Snyder went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Weaver (1-0) pitched five innings and issued just two hits. He left with a 2-0 lead, thanks to Conroy's fifth-inning homer to right, which scored Snyder.
Pereyra earned his first save, allowing just one hit over four innings. He struck out six.
The Scrappers went up 3-0 in the sixth when Ceasar Suarez grounded out but scored Ryan Mulhern, who had walked.
Conroy's two-run double in the ninth plated Snyder and Brett Parker, who reached on singles.
Notes
Third-baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff was promoted to Class A Kinston Friday and should be in its lineup tonight.
With the Scrappers this season, Kouzmanoff led the NYPL with a .962 fielding percentage. He committed just six errors in 54 games.
