WARREN -- There will be at least two new faces on the Warren school board next year.
The Trumbull County Board of Elections rejected Thursday the petitions of Nick Frankos of Foster Drive Northeast, a school board member since 1991, citing insufficient valid signatures.
Frankos couldn't be reached.
The board also rejected Christine Williams, one of three candidates who filed to fill an unexpired term on the Liberty Board of Education, for the same reason.
The candidacy of Richard T. Harkins of Austintown-Warren Road, who was seeking a Weathersfield trustee post, also was rejected because of insufficient valid signatures on petitions.
Alcohol options
A lack of valid signatures also caused the board to throw out four alcohol options.
Two were for the sale of wine and mixed beverages for off-premises consumption and Sunday sales at A-1 Food Mart in Champion.
The sale of beer, wine and mixed beverages at Lo-Cost Gas Mart, Niles Road, and Sunday sales of beer, wine and mixed beverages at Dawlah Discount Corp, Palmyra Road, also were rejected.
Both stores are in Warren.
Eligible candidates
The rejection of Frankos leaves six candidates on the November ballot for three seats on the Warren school board.
Linda Metzendorf, another longtime board member, is the only incumbent.
Robert Angelo, a board member for about 10 years, isn't seeking re-election.
Challenging Metzendorf are Edward P. Bolino of Butler Road Northeast; Nedra G. Bowen of Englesson Drive Northwest, a retired teacher; Patti M. Limperos of Edgewood Street Northeast; Larry Turner of Carlton Drive Northwest; and Wayne R. Westover of Raymond Street Northwest.
