AKRON -- Joshua Cribbs directed two late touchdown drives and Jon Drager's punt return set up Travis Mayle's 40-yard field goal on the final play as Kent State beat Akron 41-38 Thursday night.
The Golden Flashes scored 17 points over the final 3:29 to erase a 38-24 deficit and spoil a record-setting performance by Akron quarterback Charlie Frye, who set school marks for completions, passing yards and total offense.
Cribbs completed 25-of-43 passes for 340 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 57 yards a 1-yard score that pulled the Golden Flashes (1-0, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) to 38-31.
After forcing the Zips (0-1, 0-1) to punt, the Golden Flashes drove 65 yards in eight plays and tied the score 38-38 on Antwan Smith's 5-yard run with 1:16 remaining.
Bowling Green 63, E. Kentucky 13
BOWLING GREEN -- P.J. Pope ran for three touchdowns and Josh Harris threw for two.
Backup quarterback Omar Jacobs went 8-for-11 for 157 yards and also led six ball carriers with 54 yards rushing on four carries, including a 24-yard scoring run.
The Falcons rolled up 422 passing yards and 222 yards rushing while scoring nine touchdowns.
Harris completed 18 of 26 passes for 265 yards and was intercepted once. He also rushed seven times for 29 yards.
Ohio 17, SE Missouri St. 3
ATHENS -- Stafford Owens rushed for a touchdown and Scott Mayle caught a TD pass for Ohio.
Ohio lost four fumbles while Southeast Missouri had two fumbles and three interceptions. Eight of the nine turnovers and all the scoring was in the first half.
The Bobcats used eight players to rush for 227 yards on 52 attempts. Owens had 49 on seven carries, including a 12-yard TD run to make it 17-0 with 5:36 remaining in the second quarter.
Mayle's 32-yard TD reception gave the Bobcats a 7-0 lead with 3:37 to play in the first. It was backup quarterback Ryan Hawk's only completion in three attempts. Fred Ray was 9-of-16 for 49 yards.
Jack Tomko was 13-of-31 for 202 yards and two interceptions for the Indians, whose only score came on Derek Kutz's 24-yard field goal in the second quarter.
E. Michigan 28, ETSU 21
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Eastern Michigan backup quarterback Chinedu Okoro completed 10 of 17 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.
Okoro entered the game late in the first quarter after starter Jeff Crooks went down with a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle.
ETSU took a 21-14 lead just over halfway through the third quarter when tailback Gaven Varner scored on a 1-yard run. The Eagles responded with a 1-yard sneak by Okoro to tie the game with 4:02 remaining in the quarter.
Eastern regained the lead halfway through the fourth quarter when Okoro hit Eric Deslauriers in the right corner of the end zone for a 44-yard TD reception.
