HERMITAGE Officials tentatively approve of senior housing complex

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- City commissioners have tentatively approved a proposed 60-unit apartment complex for the elderly at the corner of Lamor and Keel Ridge roads.
The project is being developed by Mercer County Housing Authority with the city's blessing. City officials have long cited the need for more senior citizen housing and selected the authority to develop this project.
The project calls for 30 two-bedroom units and 30 one-bedroom units on a 20-acre site that also features a village green of nearly four acres, a community building and a gazebo.
The apartments will be clustered in groups of five per building with the buildings arranged in an oval around the village green.
The original design showed only one access road off Lamor, but the city has insisted that a second entrance off Keel Ridge be added. The revised site plan shows both entrances.
Commissioner Larry Gurrera has also suggested that the authority is looking at providing carports for at least some of the apartments.
An authority representative said that request is being considered but cautioned that financing may not be available to include it.
Project financing has yet to be arranged.
