GARDEN FORUM Trips planned
The 43rd annual Columbiana Rose Show will be held Saturday at Sky Bank, Main Street, Columbiana. Gardeners are invited to submit roses at 12:30 p.m. that day for judging at 2 p.m. The public may view the display of roses from 4 to 9 p.m., and the roses will be sold after 9. Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area will hold a flower show Sept. 13 and 14 at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens. The public is invited to participate. Entries may be submitted from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13. The show will be open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. that day and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 14. Sept. 16: Lake County tour, including Lawnfield (home of President James A. Garfield), lunch and wine tasting at the Firehouse Winery, guided tour of Mary Elizabeth Garden at the Lake County Nursery and Champion Garden Town Center; cost is $49.
Oct. 10-13: Green Mountains of southern Vermont, including stay at Horizon Inn in Wilmington, Vt., Mount Mansfield gondola ride, Mount Mills scenic boat cruise, Adams' Family Farm and wagon ride, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory, lunch at Von Trapp Family Lodge and eight meals; cost is $649.
Nov. 23: George Jones concert at Oglebay Park, W.Va., matinee show at Capitol Music Hall, including dinner at Mehlman Cafeteria, guided tour of Festival of Lights and gift shopping at Christmas in the Gardens; cost is $72.
Dec. 2-4: New York City Christmas tour, including two nights of lodging at Howard Johnson Hotel on Eighth Avenue, reserve seats for Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, four-hour guided tour to include Ground Zero, shopping along Fifth Avenue and at Macy's and two dinners (one in Manhattan and one at the Country Cupboard); cost is $537.
