CANFIELD Ex-deputy arrested in drug raid
Agents said they found OxyContin and four handguns.
CANFIELD -- Michael Terlecky, a former Mahoning County deputy sheriff with a felony record, is charged with seven counts of drug trafficking.
Terlecky, 47, known as "Beef," was standing outside his residence at 4904 Leffingwell Road when police arrived. He immediately dropped his cane and ran into the house, slamming and locking doors before being apprehended in a rear bedroom, police said.
Search warrant
Members of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force executed a search warrant at 3:15 p.m. Friday, locating four handguns, numerous containers of the prescription painkiller OxyContin, and a deputy sheriff ID card signed by former Sheriff Edward Nemeth.
Terlecky was booked into Mahoning County Jail and no bond was set.
The arrest followed a six-month investigation by the task force drug unit and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, during which undercover OxyContin buys were made. The task force said federal charges of being a felon in possession of firearms will be pursued.
Mob bribes
Terlecky was convicted years ago of taking mob bribes while he was a lieutenant at the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. The case included taking bribes from organized-crime boss Lenny Strollo to carry to the sheriff's department.
He was indicted in April 1988, a month after he went on disability leave from the sheriff's department. He pleaded guilty in 1990 and received a one-year sentence. He has professed his innocence in recent years.
