Penguin ClubJamboree slated
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Penguin Club Jamboree will be held on Thursday at The Georgetown in Boardman.
Tickets for the raffle cost $100, which includes a ticket to the drawing and dinner. Extra dinner tickets are available for $50. The grand prize is $3,000.

SVC names Stewart
Ursuline High's Derrick Stewart was named Steel Valley Conference football player of the week.
Stewart, a junior wide receiver, accounted for 279 all-purpose yards in the Irish's 39-13 victory over The Rayen School. He returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown and caught six passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns.

PULASKI, Pa. -- Brian Skelley of Campbell aced the 155-yard second hole at Tanglewood Golf Course, using a 6-iron. The shot was witnessed by Pat Cunning, Frank Richards, Ed Rozum and Dave Skelley Sr.

Turkey Trot
WARREN -- The Warren Kiwanis Club's 25th Turkey Trot (5-mile run and 2-mile fun walk/run) is Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving morning) at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus on Mahoning Avenue.
The fun run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. and the 5-mile race starts at 9:45 a.m. Both races start and finish at the KSU Trumbull Campus. Awards will be presented in the Administration Building (Lecture Hall A) following the conclusion of the races.
Pre-registration fee is $13 per person. Previous participants will receive a registration form in the mail. The fee includes a long-sleeved shirt if paid entry is received by Nov. 21. Race day registrations are an additional $2. There is a limited supply of shirts for race day registrants.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster's men's golf team closed the 2003 fall tournament season with an 11th-place finish at the Nike/Ocean City Collegiate Classic at Eagle's Landing Golf Club in Ocean City, Md.
The Titans fired a two-day, 36 hole total of 321-321--642 to finish 38 strokes behind team champion Allegheny (297-307-604).
Leading the way for the Titan linksters was sophomore John Matune (Kennedy Catholic) with a 77-79--156.
Smith cited by Big 12
DALLAS -- Missouri quarterback Brad Smith was named Big 12 Conference offensive player of the week. The Chaney High graduate guided the Tigers to a 62-31 victory over Texas Tech, setting a Big 12 record by rushing for 291 yards. He ended the day with 419 total yards, the second most in school history after Jeff Handy's 491 yards against Oklahoma State in 1992.
Poland teamwins title
The Poland U-14A boys team won the Youngstown Area Youth Soccer League championship with an overall record of 10-1-3, losing only to Canfield in the final game of the regular season.
They also won the YAYSL fall tournament with a record of 3-0-1, beating the Catholic Youth Soccer team 2-1 in the championship game.
Members of the team were Brian Witt, Weston Wagner, Zubin Teckchandani, Ryan Teckchandani, Paul Sujka, Sam Romeo, Ben Pearce, Mark Riffel, Brian Garcar, Ryan Gill, Alan Gavolas, Matthew Porter, Blake Rhein, and Alex Riddle.
Phantom squirts lose
The Youngstown Little Phantoms (Squirt Division) fell to Elyria in the opening game of the 2003-04 season, 6-4 Sunday at the Ice Zone.
Jared Taylor led the Phantoms with two goals and an assist, while Riley Emery and Neil Allen tallied the other goals. The Little Phantoms play in the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League, Squirt A major Division.

DALLAS -- Mia Hamm, Joy Fawcett and Shannon Boxx were selected to the U.S. team that will play Mexico on Sunday at the Cotton Bowl. U.S. coach April Heinrichs chose 19 players as the national team wraps up a 2003 season in which it has a 16-2-4 record and finished third at the World Cup.
