Lawmakers offer helpwith RMI negotiations
WEATHERSFIELD -- Three state lawmakers have asked officials at RMI Titanium to continue negotiating with hourly workers represented by United Steelworkers of America Locals 2155 and 2155-7. Ohio Reps. Ken Carano, D-59th, Sandra Stabile Harwood, D-65th, and Daniel Sferra, D-64th, have also offered to help mediate the talks.
RMI officials have agreed to meet with union leaders at 1 p.m. Thursday at an undisclosed location, the first meeting since the company told unionized workers to leave their jobs Sunday and instructed the rest of its hourly work force not to report. The action, which the union is calling a lockout, followed employees' rejection of a company contract offer Saturday.
The company said it is using salaried workers to operate the plant, and the union is manning informational pickets outside.
