NFL ROUNDUP News and notes

49ers: Coach Dennis Erickson said Monday the team would "make a move" regarding embattled kicker Owen Pochman, whose six-game stint plummeted further with his showing in Sunday's overtime loss to the Cardinals. The team didn't announce any official transactions Monday, but indications were that Pochman would be packing up and nine-year veteran Todd Peterson would be his replacement.
Also, safety Ronnie Heard will miss four to five weeks with a sprained left knee. Jason Webster, a three-year starter at cornerback for San Francisco, is expected to return from a knee injury in two weeks.
Redskins: Danny Wuerffel won't be rejoining the team, leaving coach Steve Spurrier in a bind if he needs to play a backup quarterback Sunday against Dallas. After a tumultuous bye week, the uncertainty at Redskins Park continued on many fronts Monday with the Wuerffel announcement; yet another minor roster move, and the news that top running backs Trung Canidate and Ladell Betts probably will miss the Cowboys game. The Redskins reversed a roster move they made last week, re-signing backup offensive lineman Brad Bedell and cutting lineman Mitch White.
Packers: Brett Favre was held out of practice Monday to give his broken right thumb more time to heal, and could be cleared to throw by Wednesday as Green Bay prepared to play Minnesota.
Eagles: Defensive tackle Hollis Thomas was to have season-ending surgery today after tearing his left biceps in the final minute of Philadelphia's victory over the New York Jets. Running back-returner Brian Westbrook probably will miss Sunday's game against Atlanta with a high left-ankle sprain, and Pro Bowl cornerback Bobby Taylor could miss his second straight game with a foot strain.
Raiders: Defensive tackle Darrell Russell was released Monday, shortly after the NFL reinstated him for completing a 1 1/2-season suspension for violating its substance abuse policy. He now can be claimed off waivers. Also, two players confirmed they were subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury investigating a lab that supplies elite athletes with nutritional supplements. Defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield said he was subpoenaed "a while ago," but doesn't know exactly when he will be in court. Running back Tyrone Wheatley also said he was subpoenaed in the case involving the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, or BALCO. Also Monday, Atlanta reserve linebacker Artie Ulmer said he had been called to testify before the grand jury in December.
Broncos: Linebacker John Mobley returned to Denver on Monday after spending the night in a Baltimore hospital with a bruised spinal cord. Mobley was injured in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Ravens when he collided with running back Jamal Lewis and teammate Kelly Herndon.
Jets: Defensive end John Abraham and linebacker Mo Lewis had MRI exams Monday and their status for this weekend's game against the New York Giants is uncertain. Abraham strained his groin against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and coach Herman Edwards said Abraham still is "very, very sore." Lewis has soreness in his hip and back. He had off-season surgery to remove loose particles from his left hip.
Panthers: Dan Morgan suffered his second concussion in seven days, leaving the team unsure Monday of the playing status of their oft-injured linebacker. Morgan was injured in the second quarter of Sunday's win over New Orleans, colliding with safety Deon Grant and Saints receiver Joe Horn in the end zone on Horn's touchdown catch. He left the game and did not return.
Texans: David Carr probably will miss the Sunday's next game against Carolina because of a badly sprained right ankle, though an MRI showed no serious damage. Carr, who didn't miss a snap last season despite setting the NFL sacks record with 76, was hurt during the first quarter of Sunday's 30-21 loss at Indianapolis. Colts defensive end Raheem Brock rolled into his ankle during a sack.
Titans: Rookie cornerback Andre Woolfolk's sprained left ankle could sideline him for the season, but coach Jeff Fisher said Monday the team will seek a second opinion.
Jaguars: Linebacker T.J. Slaughter was arrested and spent several hours in jail Monday after two men in a passing car told police the player pointed a gun at them. Slaughter declined comment when approached at Jaguars headquarters. His agent, Michael Huyghue, released a statement saying the fourth-year veteran denied the allegations.
