MILWAUKEE -- UW-Milwaukee's Evann Franklin scored in the 74th minute as the Panthers defeated Youngstown State, 1-0, and clinched the Horizon League regular season title Sunday.
Franklin scored from 7 yards out off a long feed from Sommer Rouse and Ginny Graczyk. The Panthers (8-7-1, 5-1 HL) outshot the Penguins, 21-3, and outcornered YSU, 10-1.
YSU is 1-15, 0-5.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Erin Carter set the school record in the 200-yard individual medley to highlight Matt Anderson's first victory as head coach, over Radford, 158-141, Sunday at Beeghly Natatorium.
Carter's time of 2 minutes, 14.29 seconds topped Becky MacFadyen's record of 2:14.79 set in 1984.
YSU swept 3-meter diving and claimed victories in the 200 IM and the 400 freestyle relay.

Phantoms dropshootout at Dayton
DAYTON -- The Youngstown Phantoms dropped a 4-3 decision to the Dayton Gems in an overtime shootout at Hobart Arena Saturday night.
Youngstown (8-1-4) received one point in the standings for the regulation tie. The 3-3 tie came about when Phantoms' center Carson Strang scored with 19 seconds remaining in the third period after coach Bob Mainhardt pulled goaltender John Murray in favor of an extra attacker.
Neither team scored during the five-minute overtime and the game went to a shootout.
Dayton (5-6-1) earned the victory by finding the net against Murray on three of its four shots, while Youngstown scored on only one of its four attempts.
Youngstown got second-period goals from left winger Aaron Rhyner and defenseman Charley Fetzer, but entered the third period trailing, 3-2. The goal by Strang was his team-leading ninth of the season.
Murray made 26 saves as the Phantoms out-shot the Gems, 41-29. Anthony Canzoneri was the only Youngstown player to score during the shootout.
The Phantoms travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., Wednesday, for a 7 p.m. game against the USA 17-and-Under National Team.
Youngstown will host the Soo Indians Friday and Saturday at The Ice Zone. Both games are at 7 p.m.
McBride wins debut
AKRON -- Saturday night at the Chapperal Events Center on a 12-bout pro-am boxing card, "Irish" Davey McBride, making his pro debut, won a lightweight four-round split decision over Carl Hunter (0-6) from Cincinnati.
The 22-year-old McBride, undefeated with a 30-0 record as a kickboxer, is from New Waterford and trains at the Salem Boxing Club.
He is trained by the Plegge brothers -- Bobby, Dennis and Dave -- and co-managed by them and Chuck Nelson. His next scheduled bout is Nov. 20 in Butler, Pa.

HAMPTON, Ga. -- Rain forced postponement of the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 Winston Cup race Sunday after just 39 of the scheduled 325 laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Racing was set to resume today at 11 a.m.

LAS VEGAS -- Tony Pedregon clinched his first Funny Car championship and won the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. Kenny Bernstein, Greg Anderson and Craig Treble also won in their respective categories at the $1.6 million race.

* LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Vijay Singh won the Funai Classic at Disney on Sunday. He finished with a 5-under 67 to win by four strokes over Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink and Scott Verplank. It was his fourth victory of the year.
* SEOUL, South Korea -- Se Ri Pak finished in 10th place in a Korean tour event after becoming the first woman to make the two-round cut in a men's tournament in 58 years.
Pak closed with a 1-under-par 71 at the $250,000 SBS Super Tournament. The South Korean star finished at 2-under 286. She was 11 strokes behind the winner, Chang Ik-je.
* SONOMA, Calif. -- Jim Thorpe shot a final-round 68 to hold off Tom Watson for a three-stroke victory in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship on the Champions Tour.

SURFERS PARADISE, Australia -- Paul Tracy won the CART drivers' championship Sunday when closest rival Bruno Junqueira crashed with 10 laps left in the Gold Coast Indy.
American rookie Ryan Hunter-Reay was the winner in a race cut short by thunderstorms and hail. Hunter-Reay beat another rookie, Darren Manning of England, by 1.546 seconds for his first CART victory.
