YOUNGSTOWN Man gets 15 years to life in car death

Michael Hogan will likely serve at least 25 years in prison, the prosecutor said.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man found guilty of running over and killing an elderly man at a recycling center has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the murder conviction.
Judge James C. Evans, who imposed the sentence today on Michael Hogan, 38, of Boardman, said he had no choice about the sentence because of mandatory sentencing laws.
The judge also imposed a 10-year sentence on a robbery conviction to run consecutively with the life sentence.
Assistant prosecutor Jeffrey Limbian said that should work out to a minimum of 25 years in prison for Hogan.
Before being sentenced, Hogan told the judge that he did not commit the crime.
Jury's finding
A jury found Hogan guilty Friday of murder and aggravated robbery.
Hogan's lawyer, James T. Hartford, had argued Hogan was home asleep at the time, and that the investigation into the killing was sloppy.
John Ruble Sr. 71, of Struthers, died of multiple injuries May 31, 2002. He was injured while trying to grab the purse of his wife, Louise, who was present, from a car that was driving away from the site.
