YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State volleyball team was handed a 30-18, 30-23, 30-28 setback by UW-Milwaukee Friday in a Horizon League match at Beeghly Center.
Senior Colleen Royers had her 10th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs to pace the Penguins (8-12, 1-12). Senior Annie Buschur had 13 kills.
Rachel Kuebbing led UWM (19-3, 8-0) with 15 kills, while Karen Fruit had 12 kills and 14 digs.

Fitch sophomoreto miss district final
AUSTINTOWN -- Austintown Fitch sophomore Erica Bortmas will not play tonight when the Falcon soccer team meets North Canton Hoover for the district championship at Fitch at 7 p.m.
Bortmas injured her spinal column Wednesday during a semifinal game and was life-flighted to St. Elizabeth Health Center then later released. She has not been cleared to compete by her doctor.
Bortmas is out "for a couple of months," said Fitch coach Carlo Trafficante.
Manute Bol to speak
GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Former NBA basketball star and political activist Manute Bol will visit Thiel College Wednesday.
Bol will speak at 8 p.m. in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center as the first speaker under a $10,000 NCAA initiative grant received by the college.
The Sudan native spent 11 years in the NBA. His speech is open to the public.
Fundraisers honored
CLEVELAND -- The American Heart Association's top Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops for Heart student fundraisers from Ohio and western Pennsylvania will be recognized at the Cleveland Cavaliers game against the Detroit Pistons Dec. 11.
Top fundraisers and coordinators from schools that raised over $1,500 during the 2002-03 school year will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony on the court.
C & amp;G wins tourney
YOUNGSTOWN -- C & amp;G West Side Pro Shop won the fourth annual Youngstown Senior Team Tournament, held at West Side Lanes recently.
Greg Hartman, Chuck Hurd, Ted Clark and Lloyd Hays totaled 2,514 in the 16-team event. Runnerup was A Gal & amp; Her Guys with 2,498, followed by Lefty's (2,477) and Make-Ups (2,463).
Gal & amp; Guys comprised Jim Shopinsky, Nancy Hays, Lloyd Hays and Jim Ellis; Lefty's team included Shopinsky, the Hayses and Tom Bobonick, while the Make-Ups team bowlers were John Bossone, Joan Davis, Hartman and Rob Vukovich.
The next senior mixed tournament is Nov. 2 & amp; Nov. 9 at Bowladrome.
Bowling tournament
BOARDMAN -- The Youngstown Bowling Association has entry forms available for its 16th annual Youngstown Masters Tournament.
Top prize is $1,000 (based on 60 entries). The tournament starts Nov. 7 at Bell-Wick, continues Nov. 8 at Amron and A-Plus and concludes Nov. 9 at Wedgewood.

Phantoms win
DAYTON -- The Youngstown Phantons Junior-A hockey team beat the Dayton Gems, 6-1, in North American Hockey League action Saturday at Hobart Arena.
Right wing Brian Moore scored two goals for the Phantoms (8-1-3, 19 points) -- his first of the season. Right wing Matt Lombardo and left wing Aaron Rhyner each contributed a goal and an assist against the Gems (4-6-1, nine points). Dan McClain and Jared Katz also scored. John Murray (3-0-1) picked up the win in goal. The two teams will meet again at 8 p.m. today in Dayton.
Spadafora charged
PITTSBURGH -- Boxer Paul Spadafora, who gave up his lightweight title this summer, was arrested Friday morning for open lewdness and public intoxication, police said.
Officers on routine patrol spotted Spadafora, of McKees Rocks, urinating on a downtown street about 2:45 a.m., Pittsburgh police said.
Undefeated as a pro, Spadafora had been the International Boxing Federation lightweight champion, successfully defending his title nine times.

Indians open new parkto end spring training
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians will conclude their 2004 spring training schedule against Jim Thome and the Phillies with two games to open Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The spring training schedule released Friday includes home dates at Winter Haven, Fla., against the New York Yankees, Boston and Cincinnati.
Cleveland opens the exhibition season against Houston on March 5 at Winter Haven. The schedule ends April 4 at Philadelphia with the Indians traveling to Minnesota to start the regular season April 5.

Baseball ratings climb
NEW YORK -- Television ratings for Game 5 of the World Series between Florida and New York were 32 percent higher than a year ago.
Thursday night's game between the Yankees and Marlins posted a national rating of 13.2 with a 21 share for Fox Sports, well above the 10.0 and 17 share for Game 5 last year between the Anaheim and San Francisco.
