Westminster symposium to examine churches' positions on homosexuality

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College will have the second in a series of diversity symposiums at 7 p.m. Thursday in the McKelvey Campus Center Theater.
Members of three denominations will examine "The Church and Homosexuality: What's happening with the Episcopalians, United Methodists, and Presbyterians?"
"This event grows out of the struggle of many denominations with the issues of gay clergy, blessing of same-sex unions, and the participation of gay people in faith communities," said Dr. Phyllis Kitzerow, professor of sociology at Westminster College. "The intent of the evening is to look at the three denominational positions at this point in time."
Speakers include: Dr. Ron Hollellein, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church; Connie Dunn, director of church education at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church and a 1998 Westminster College graduate; and Judie Compher, member of the Progressive Episcopalians of Pittsburgh and a 2002 Westminster College graduate.
The events are free. For more information, contact Kitzerow at (724) 946-7252 or e-mail kitzerpg@westminster.edu.
