Two men face charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested and jailed two city men, ages 21 and 22, after finding loaded handguns under their car about 1 a.m. Saturday.
Police said they noticed two men drinking alcohol in a car at Pasadena and South avenues.
When police approached the car, the men got out of the vehicle and squatted on each side. Police found the weapons, a .45-caliber with seven live rounds, and a 9 mm with 16 live rounds, under the car.
Both men were charged with carrying concealed weapons and possession of marijuana.
In addition, the 22-year-old was charged with having weapons under disability because of a past weapons conviction and consumption of alcohol, police said.
Springfield Twp. clerk
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Lisa Hankinson was recently appointed Springfield Township clerk by township trustees to fill a vacancy left by the death of clerk Shirley Casity. Hankinson, a Youngstown State University graduate and an accountant with Jeffery J. Chachine CPA, Inc., will fill the position until a new clerk is elected Nov. 4 and certified by the Mahoning County Board of Elections, township officials said.
Aggravated robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are looking for two men, ages 21 and 24, in an aggravated robbery in the 100 block of North Evanston Avenue on Saturday morning.
According to police reports, a 24-year-old Warren man was in a North Evanston house about 2:30 a.m. when another man took his wallet from his back pocket. Reports say the man told police that when he tried to get his wallet back, the man who took it and another man began beating him with a pool stick and pool balls. The victim told police the attackers then went to their cars to get guns, but he ran away before they got back to him. The man was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, reports said.
Fire at Liberty home
LIBERTY -- Fire in a bedroom of a one-story home at 2530 Tibbets-Wick Road early Saturday caused an estimated $28,000 to the structure and contents. The owner of the home, Regina Rebhan, and two children escaped without injury from the blaze, which was reported at 2:19 a.m. The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation, fire officials said.
