HUBBARD Special event wins approval from seniors

About 50 seniors attended Operation Golden Years.
HUBBARD -- "A fantastic event," said Wila "Noots" Ball, former head cook at Hubbard High School.
"A really nice time to meet people," said Mary Ann Garasic, who grew up in Hubbard as Rose Perline. She moved back two weeks ago.
"The entertainment was very good," said Nora Moga of Hubbard City.
"You get to see a lot of people you never get to see," said Stella Madeline, a retired cook/baker at Hubbard Schools.
The four were among about 50 seniors from Hubbard City and Township, age 65 and over, who attended Operation Golden Years, a pizza party. The event was put on Saturday at the Hubbard Senior Center by the Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce as its 2003 Make A Difference Day event.
Entertainment
The entertainment, provided by members of the Hubbard High School Drama Club under the direction of Carol Killian, included selections from an upcoming play and its "Patriotic Salute," presented in September in recognition of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Soloists were Christine Wilson and Phillip Fry. Others involved were Scott Killian and Matt Hogue.
The pizza was donated by Hubbard Mayor George Praznik. Volunteers from the chamber of commerce and Girl Scout Troop 10 of Roosevelt School served the guests.
Mary Ann Lark, chamber president, said Operation Golden Years was the second Make A Difference Day event sponsored by the organization. Last year was Operation Seat Cover, where socks, underwear and book bags were collected for Hubbard schoolchildren.
Lark, owner of Hair Design By Lark, said she planned to take the pizza party to 30 seniors who were unable to come to the event.
