INDIANAPOLIS -- Freshman Lisa Davies was named Horizon League women's cross country runner of the week after breaking the school record in the 6K at last weekend's meet at Penn State.
Davies, a West Branch High graduate, ran a time of 21 minutes, 46.90 seconds, to lead the women to a 12th-place finish.
It was the second time in the last month that Davies earned the honor.

Boxing show guests
YOUNGSTOWN -- Trainer Freddie Roach and former lightweight champion Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini will be featured on "Inside Boxing" today at 6 p.m. on WBBW-AM (1240).
Roach, who has Parkinson's Disease, is a trainer for James Toney and Vladimir Klitschko, among others. The show is hosted by Greg Augustine and Mike Cefalde.

MAC beats TAC
COITSVILLE -- Canfield High senior Chris Traikoff went 3-0 in match play to lead the Metro Athletic Conference past the Trumbull Athletic Conference in last weekend's Conference Cup at Countryside Golf Course.
Canfield senior Michael Miladore and Struthers senior Mike McClure each went 2-1. Other team members were Nate Mullen (Salem), Jason Cerimele (Niles), Mike Plakosh (Poland), Zach Horvath (Poland), Brandon Bates (Alliance), John Sweeney (Poland), Chuck Jurenovich (Howland) and coach Dave DiGiacomo (Poland).

DiVito runs for 'Berg
TIFFIN -- Heidelberg College junior Tim DiVito, a Boardman High graduate, finished 33rd out of 150 runners at Polar Bear Invitational at Hawthorne Hills Country Club last Saturday.
DiVito helped Heidelberg to a seventh-place finish out of 13 teams.

BIG BEAVER BOROUGH, Pa. -- Stock cars will compete at BeaveRun MotorSports ComPlex Friday and Saturday.
The Stock Car Championship Series (SCCS) is a road course series.
Two 50-minute races will be conducted on the North Course, BeaveRun's 1.6-mile, 12-turn road course.
Spectators can compete in a benefit kart race Friday. Proceeds will support Motor Racing Outreach (MRO), a non-denominational ministry. Entry fee for a three-person amateur team is a $100 donation.
Gates open at 7 a.m. Friday and practice begins at 11. The benefit kart race begins at 5 p.m. On Saturday gates open at 7 a.m. and cars go on the track at 9. Weekend tickets are $10 per person, including parking. Kids 12 and under get in free.

Driver killed
INDIANAPOLIS -- IRL driver Tony Renna was killed in a wreck during testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after he lost control at nearly 220 mph, went airborne and crashed into a fence. He was 26.
Renna was the first IRL driver to die in a crash since Scott Brayton in 1996 at Indianapolis, and he was the 67th person fatally injured at the track since it opened in 1909.

* HOUSTON -- Astros manager Jimy Williams received a one-year contract extension, signing with Houston through the 2005 season.
* SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants declined their $4 million option on outfielder Jose Cruz Jr. for next season, making him eligible for free agency.
Richardson suspended
NEW YORK -- Jason Richardson of the Golden State Warriors was suspended for three games without pay for being convicted of domestic violence over the summer in Michigan, the NBA announced.
Richardson's suspension will begin with the Warriors' first game of the 2003-04 season, next Wednesday night against Dallas.
Richardson was convicted in August of a misdemeanor domestic violence charge stemming from an assault on his ex-girlfriend.
Tougher rules
SAN FRANCISCO -- USA Track & amp; Field proposed tougher drug rules that could include lifetime bans for first steroid offenses and fines up to $100,000 for athletes.
USATF chief executive officer Craig Masback also announced that four U.S. athletes tested positive for tetrahydrogestrinone, or THG, a previously undetectable designer steroid.
Breeders Cup
ARCADIA, Calif. -- Medaglia d'Oro is the horse to beat in Saturday's $4 million Breeders' Cup Classic at the World Thoroughbred Championships.
In a field of 10 entered for the 1 1/4-mile Classic, Medaglia d'Oro was established as the 3-1 morning line favorite, with Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide the fifth choice at 8-1.
