WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP Storm-water study to be done in 2 areas

Trustees accepted the resignation of a patrolman.
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees have approved having a storm-water study done in two areas of the township, Mineral Ridge and the Oakview Development off Salts Springs Road.
Administrator David Pugh said that MS Consultants of Youngstown will do the study for $9,394. Pugh said the Mineral Ridge area will be included. Pugh said he has wanted to have that area reviewed for a couple of years because residential and business development is putting the storm sewer system at capacity "more often than not."
He said the sewer system in the Oakview area has been "bad from the start."
The Oakview development was started in the 1960s, and building continued into the early 1990s. He said the developer put in some "dummy" catch basins, which are not attached to storm sewers, and there have been problems with street and basement flooding.
Pugh said the study will be done over the winter. He said the township may be able put additional retention ponds in certain areas to help with the water runoff.

Meanwhile, trustees have approved a mutual-aid agreement in which the Weathersfield Police Department would provide aid to the other departments countywide.
Trustees also have accepted the resignation for personal reasons of police Patrolman Sam Verlenich, who has been a full-time officer since November 2001.
Hired as a new full-time officer was part-time officer Maynard Tally, 34, of 24 S. Bentley Ave., Niles, effective Oct. 20. Tally started as a reserve officer, became a part-time officer in 2000, and will now earn $15.46 an hour.
Trustees have set trick or treat for 5 to 8 p.m. next Thursday.
