Sebring council to discusshiring interim manager
SEBRING -- Village council will discuss naming an interim village manager at its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at village hall. Doug Burchard, assistant to the village manager, said Village Manager Teddy Ryan resigned last week to accept a position as borough manager in Columbia, Pa.
His last day in the village will be Nov. 14.
Burchard said the move is one of professional advancement for Ryan, who has been village manager for three years.
When asked if he is interested in the full-time position, Burchard said, "I'm interested in any position they would offer me."
He said the council will likely name an interim manager and then begin the process of searching for someone to fill the post full time.
Ryan's salary is about $60,000 per year, Burchard said.

Sharon district seeks loan
SHARON, Pa. -- The lack of a state budget has forced the Sharon School District to borrow money to keep its doors open. The board voted Wednesday to borrow up to $4.5 million in a tax and revenue anticipation note from First National Bank of Pennsylvania at an interest rate of 3.35 percent.
The money will be drawn down as needed rather than be taken in a lump sum. School officials had warned the district would be out of money by the end of this month and the deficit could reach $3.5 million by the end of January. The state has failed to make the first two of four $1.6 million subsidy payments to the district for the 2003-04 school year.

The woman's accomplice approached the driver's-side window, pointed a gun and demanded money, reports show.
The 47-year-old Virginia Avenue man turned over $80, then the gunman snatched a cell phone off the dash and both suspects ran, police said.
