Red Dress Event Nov. 9 to focus on women and heart disease



A speaker and fashion show will be part of the program.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Humility of Mary Health Partners will hold a Red Dress Event from 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., as a benefit for its programs to raise awareness about heart disease among women.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Rekha Mankad, a cardiologist at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. She will present "Understanding Women and Cardiovascular Disease."
A fashion show will feature Catherine Bosley, WKBN TV-27 anchorwoman, as mistress of ceremonies and Humility of Mary Health Partners cardiologists and surgeons as model escorts.
Featured fashions
Four dresses from the Original Red Dress Collection from leading designers who have joined the women and heart disease movement will be showcased.
The Red Dress Collection is one component of The Heart Truth, a national awareness campaign sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in partnership with the American Heart Association, Office on Women's Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, WomenHeart, the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease and other organizations committed to the health and well-being of women. The campaign uses the red dress as its alert symbol to convey the message, "Heart disease doesn't care what you wear. It's the No. 1 killer of women."
The event also will feature hors d'oeuvres and health information.
