Police probe shooting death outside bar

YOUNGSTOWN -- Police were investigating the shooting death of a 20-year-old man Saturday morning in the rear parking lot of the Classique Lounge, 2121 South Ave.
Michael J. Lett, address unknown, died at 4:43 a.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Health Center from multiple gunshot wounds suffered about two hours earlier.
Police, responding to an anonymous report of a shooting, found Lett lying in the parking lot with a white shirt over his head. The victim had been shot several times in the left hand and chest. Police tried to talk to Lett, but he was unable to respond. The reason for the shooting is unknown.
Lett was taken to St. Elizabeth's, where he underwent surgery.
Witnesses said Lett was standing in the parking lot when a man got out of a car and shot the victim.
The shooter fled in an unknown direction, and neither he nor the weapon used in the killing have been found, according to reports.
It was the 16th homicide in Youngstown this year, compared to 30 homicides at this time in 2002.
