CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marshall University's board of governors voted Friday to authorize President Dan Angel to pursue Conference USA membership.
The school has not received an invitation from C-USA, but such an offer is expected. Representatives of C-USA visited the Huntington campus this week.
Marshall, the Mid-American Conference's most successful football program since joining in 1997, has won five of the past six conference titles and has played in each of the league's six championship games. The Thundering Herd are 49-8 in MAC games.
Curry hired
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dell Curry was hired as the director of basketball relations for the expansion Charlotte Bobcats. Curry will be part of the Bobcats' community relations, public relations, sales and marketing efforts and be an adviser and scout on the team's basketball operations staff.
Team bought
ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The Round Rock Express, owned by Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan and his family, announced it will buy the Edmonton Trappers of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League and move the team to Texas for the 2005 season.
