Halloween parade entries
WARREN -- Entry forms for the city's Halloween parade are due in the community development department by Friday.
The event is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, with lineup beginning at 5 p.m. in Perkins Park.
All entries must keep with the parade's Halloween theme or a patriotic theme.
Units may not stop and perform during the parade, and they must keep moving, officials said.
School contract vote
LORDSTOWN -- The school district's classified employees were to vote this afternoon on the board of education's latest contract proposal.
The board presented its latest offer about three weeks ago, but the 24 members of Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local 744 had not met to discuss it.
The contract for secretaries, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and others expired July 1.
Part-time officers hired
HOWLAND -- The township police department has three new part-time patrol officers.
Darlene St. George, township administrator, said trustees voted Wednesday to hire Alan Bansky, Jeffrey Sescourka and Adam Creatura. Each will earn $8.18 per hour. After one year, the pay increases to $10.23 an hour.
Trustees also awarded a $58,000 contract to Shelly & amp; Sands of Youngstown to resurface Boston and Crestview Avenues.
Murder charge dismissed
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office has dismissed an aggravated-murder charge against Corey Bradley, 25, of Warren, saying two witnesses cannot be located.
The charges can be refiled, said Chris Becker, an assistant prosecutor.
Police accused Bradley of killing Antonio Daniels, 22, of Sixth Street S.W., on June 18 outside 941 Oak St. S.W.
Bradley is still being held in the county jail on an unrelated felonious-assault charge.
Trumbull County jail officials say Bradley assaulted a corrections officer July 18.
Charge dismissed
LIBERTY -- A misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business has been dismissed against Robert Thomas of Liberty for lying down in front of township equipment cleaning the ditch in front of his home.
Authorities said Thomas tried to impede a backhoe digging out the ditch Sept. 9, saying he thought the work would increase, rather than alleviate, flooding at his Goldie Road home during heavy rains.
Meeting night changed
HUBBARD -- The school board has changed its monthly meeting to Tuesday at the board offices, 150 Hall Ave. The caucus will be at 5:45 p.m., and the meeting will follow at 7.
Discount for donation
HUBBARD -- People who bring a nonperishable food item for Second Harvest Foodbank when they visit the Hubbard Kiwanis Haunted Mansion from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday and from 7 to 11 p.m. Nov. 1 will receive $1 off the admission price.
The haunted mansion is at 32 S. Main St.
Second Harvest provides food to 200 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Revised buffer rules
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees have approved changes to the definitions and language regarding property buffer areas.
The revised version can be viewed at the zoning office.
Grant for task force
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County has been awarded a $428,899 federal grant to fund the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, made up of law enforcement officers from Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties, as well as state and federal agents.
The task force investigates crimes involving drugs, firearms, gangs, violent crime and terrorist activities.
Radio station fund drive
Catholic radio station WLOA (1470-AM) "The Station of the Cross" is conducting its fall fund drive. Anyone calling in a pledge to (866) 972-3469 by 6 p.m. Friday will be entered into a drawing for an all-expenses-paid cruise to the Bahamas. The drawing will be held at 8 p.m. that evening, when the drive ends.
The drive is being done from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
