Northern Airlines carrier relocates to Pittsburgh
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Northern Airlines, a startup carrier which has been trying to begin low-cost air service in Syracuse for seven years, hopes to have better luck raising money in Pittsburgh.
The airline announced that it plans to move its office from Syracuse to Pittsburgh late this year or early next year, making Pittsburgh International Airport its hub.
Northern has six employees, and only two are based in Syracuse. The airline had said it would employ 1,275 people in Syracuse and have a local payroll of about $175 million within five years of launching service here. Officials said the airline has been able to raise only about half of the $60 million it needed to start service in Syracuse.
