The city planning commission handled these items Tuesday:
Recommended to city council a waiver so Bernard Marinelli can open a bar and restaurant at the city-owned Wick building, 36 W. Federal St., within 500 feet of another bar. A lease for the space hasn't yet been signed.
Recommended that city council reject a request to change the zoning at 1605 Ford Ave. from single family residential to one- and two-family residential. Board members were concerned the zone change could allow group homes in area.
The city zoning appeals board, which doubles as the planning commission, approved this item Tuesday:
Seven variances for Jim Sutman to turn an office at 117 S. Champion St. into an adult vocational rehabilitation center, called the Purple Cat. The variances are to: Reduce the minimum lot area from 18,000 square feet to 11,700 square feet; reduce the minimum frontage from 100 feet to 75 feet; increase the ratio of the building to the total lot area from 20 percent to 46 percent; eliminate the 50-foot front setback; eliminate the 20-foot side yard setback; reduce the rear yard setback from 87.5 feet to 25 feet; and waive the 6-foot fence requirement along all side and rear yard lines.
