Rangers 3, Panthers 1
NEW YORK -- Eric Lindros and Tom Poti scored goals against Roberto Luongo to lead New York to its first victory of the season. Lindros scored 1:41 in and Poti made it 2-0 with seven seconds remaining in the second period. Petr Nedved added an empty-net goal with 52 seconds to go. Lindros left the game with a left shoulder injury and was sent for X-rays before the third period. Mike Dunham made 34 saves for New York, beaten only by Niklas Hagman 51 seconds into the third period.
Islanders 5, Maple Leafs 2
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Mariusz Czerkawski scored twice for New York. Jason Blake, Michael Peca and Oleg Kvasha also scored for the Islanders. Garth Snow was in net for New York for the first time since allowing six goals in less than two periods on opening night, and stopped 24 shots for his first win. Gary Roberts and Matt Stajan scored for Toronto, which lost its first road game. The Maple Leafs have scored only seven goals in their first six games.
Canadiens 2, Red Wings 1
MONTREAL -- Steve Begin and Richard Zednik each scored a goal and backup goalie Mathieu Garon made 18 saves to lead Montreal. Begin scored his first Montreal goal on a two-man break 1:45 into the second period, and Zednik got his second of the season moments on a two-on-one later in the period. Mathieu Dandenault scored a short-handed goal for Detroit, which has lost two in a row.
Canucks 6, Sabres 1
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Rookie Jason King had a goal and two assists, and Dan Cloutier made 18 saves to lead Vancouver. Daniel Sedin added a goal and an assist for the Canucks, who snapped a three-game winless skid. Trevor Linden, Ed Jovanovski, Sami Salo and Brendan Morrison also scored for Vancouver. Miroslav Satan spoiled Cloutier's shutout bid with a power-play goal 6:25 into the final period.
