Judge considersClarett case
COLUMBUS -- City attorneys said today that a charge of lying to police likely will have to be dropped against suspended Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett if a judge bars information from an NCAA investigation.
Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Steven B. Hayes postponed Clarett's preliminary hearing scheduled for today on the misdemeanor falsification charge for a campus police report about items stolen from a car. Hayes will decide by a hearing scheduled for Dec. 17 whether to suppress the investigation information.
Miladore is medalistfor MAC season
CANFIELD -- Canfield High senior Mike Miladore was named medalist of the Metro Athletic Conference for the 2003 golf season.
Miladore posted a season average of 37.6, with a low round of 33. He led the Cardinals to a 12-2 record.

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva College's women's basketball coach Ron Galbreath will hold a three-day mini-clinic at Metheny Fieldhouse Oct. 29, Nov. 6 and Nov. 12.

Crew wins in OTover D.C. United
WASHINGTON -- Brian McBride scored his second goal of the game in the 10th minute of overtime, and the Columbus Crew kept their postseason hopes alive with a 3-2 victory over D.C. United on Sunday.
Columbus needs a victory next Sunday against Chicago and a loss by United against Kansas City on Saturday to get the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Otherwise, United will be in the postseason for the first time in four years.
McBride's winner came when he headed Alex Pineda Chacon's cross past diving goalkeeper Doug Warren at the far post.
McBride also converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute, but United's Mike Petke header tied the score at 2-all with a header in second-half injury time.
Pushkina repeatsin Columbus Marathon
COLUMBUS -- Lydmyla Pushkina of Ukraine on Sunday won her second consecutive Columbus Marathon, breaking the record she set last year by eight seconds.
Pushkina finished the race in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 15 seconds, nearly 16 minutes ahead of second-place finisher Heather Tanner of Palo Alto, Calif.
Ronald Mogaka of Kenya won the men's division in 2:14:10. Jim Jurcevich of Dublin was second, finishing in 2:15:13.
Former Youngstown State standout and current assistant coach for the Penguins, Matt Folk, finished fourth in the men's division in 2:21.10

Mavs get Walker from Celtics in deal
DALLAS -- All-Star forward Antoine Walker was traded by the Boston Celtics to the Dallas Mavericks in a five-player deal Monday.
Dallas is sending Raef LaFrentz to the Celtics with Jiri Welsch and Chris Mills, players the Mavs got in an off-season trade that brought Antawn Jamison from Golden State.
Boston also will get Dallas' first-round pick in 2004. The Mavericks will get guard Tony Delk from Boston.

* VIRGINIA WATER, England -- Ernie Els won a record-tying fifth World Match Play title Sunday, defeating Thomas Bjorn 4 and 3.
Els won $1.67 million and joined Gary Player and Seve Ballesteros as five-time winners. Els, the European money title winner with two events left, also won the event from 1994-96 and last season.
* GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Shigeki Maruyama won his third PGA Tour event in as many years, shooting a final-round 67 at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro to beat Brad Faxon by five shots.
* SAN ANTONIO -- Craig Stadler won his third Champions Tour event of the year, shooting a 4-under 67 for a four-stroke victory over Bob Gilder at the $1.5 million SBC Championship.
