South Range School District receives honors for excellence

NORTH LIMA -- The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber has recognized South Range School District for five consecutive years of excellence.
The chamber, which represents the Mahoning Valley, presented an academic trophy to the school district during an awards event earlier this month. The event served as the inaugural From Steel To Scholars achievement awards ceremony.
The ceremony also kicked off the From Steel to Scholars campaign -- a three-year initiative to raise proficiency test scores in school districts throughout the state.
Several area school districts were recognized based on various standards set by the Ohio Department of Education. Other school districts recognized for consecutive years of excellence were: Canfield for four years; Boardman and Poland for three years; Lowellville and Western Reserve for two years; and Howland for one year.
"It's a great honor for this school district to be recognized," said Jim Hall, schools superintendent. "It demonstrates how hard our staff and students have worked. And we will continue to work hard."
