WCI Steel, Warren
Integrated steel producer and the Mahoning Valley's third-largest industrial employer, with 1,800 employees.
Filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Youngstown on Sept. 16. Continuing operations as company works to reorganize its debts.
U.S. Magnesium, Salt Lake City, Utah
Magnesium producer, formerly known as Magnesium Corp. of America. That company filed for Chapter 11 in August 2001, and Rennert brought part of the plant out of bankruptcy court last year and renamed it. Employs 400.
Doe Run Resources Corp., St. Louis, Mo.
Largest integrated lead producer in North America and second largest in the world, the company has plants in Texas, Arizona, Washington state and Peru. It employs 6,000 workers, 1,400 in the United States, with four plants in Missouri and one in Peru.
AM General, South Bend, Ind.
Maker of the Humvee, a wide-bodied all-terrain vehicle, as well as the Hummer and H2 SUVs for General Motors. Besides sales to the U.S. Army, the company has 50 international military customers.
The company employs 2,500 and contributes to Renco ranking consistently among the top 100 U.S. Defense Department vendors.
Unarco Material Handling, Springfield, Tenn.
Design and production of racks and material handling systems for warehouses, distribution centers and retail store chains. Employs 355.
Baron Drawn Steel Corp., Toledo, Ohio, and Canton, Mich.Producer of cold-drawn bar steel and carbon and alloy wire products.
Announced plans last month to close its Toledo plant, idling 125.
Lodestar Holdings and Lodestar Energy, Lexington, Ky.
A coal mining company which also has mines in eastern Kentucky, Colorado and Utah, Lodestar and its holding company filed for Chapter 11 in Lexington, March 30, 2001, and its assets were sold in July. Lodestar is no longer a Renco property.
