REGIONAL COLLEGE ROUNDUP Allegheny remains unbeaten in NCAC



The Gators dealt Wooster its second loss and climbed to 3-0 in the conference.
WOOSTER -- Bubba Smith threw three touchdown passes and Brian Woods caught a scoring pass and returned a punt for a touchdown, to lead Allegheny to a 26-20 win over Wooster on Saturday in a North Coast Athletic Conference game.
Wooster lost its second straight despite the return of tailback Tony Sutton, who missed last Saturday's 14-7 loss to Oberlin with a knee injury. Sutton rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries.
Smith's third TD pass, a 3-yard toss to Brian O'Malley, gave the Gators (3-3, 3-0 NCAC) a 19-14 lead with 8:26 remaining in the third quarter.
After Richie McNally's 25-yard field goal closed the Fighting Scots (4-2, 1-2) to within 19-17, Woods scored on a 77-yard punt return to give Allegheny a 26-17 lead.
Woods also caught a 65-yard TD pass from Smith, who completed 10 of 18 passes for 195 yards with one interception. Smith's other TD pass was a 54-yard connection to Casey Devlin.
Wittenberg 66, Hiram 0
SPRINGFIELD -- Wittenberg (5-1, 2-1 NCAC) scored touchdowns on all seven first-half possessions to build a 49-0 lead at the break.
Hiram (0-6, 0-3) never has defeated the Tigers in five meetings, and has been shutout in each of the last four.
Max Kravitz completed 10 of 20 passes for 78 yards for Hiram.
Malone 14, Thomas More 6
CANTON -- Sean Knight rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown and Mike Swanson (East Liverpool High) returned an interception 41 yards for a score to ignite Malone.
Swanson's interception came on the game's opening possession, and Knight scored on an 18-yard run about three minutes later to give the Pioneers (2-4) a 14-0 lead.
Malone held Thomas More (2-4) to 125 yards passing and only 41 yards rushing on 43 carries.
The Saints' Nate Berkley completed 4 of 14 passes for 58 yards with three interceptions, and Seth Ellis was 3-of-14 for 67 yards and an interception. Both quarterbacks were sacked five times.
Rich Christian had a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter for Thomas More.
Slippery Rock 28, Millersville 18
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Brandon Markus rushed 28 times for 158 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 4 yards for the Rock (3-4).
Chad DeVore was 7-for-17 passing for 75 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown strike.
For Millersville (3-4), Dan Csencsitz was 35-for-50 passing for 294 yards and all three touchdowns. Millersville committed six turnovers, including three in the fourth quarter.
W & amp;J 38, Bethany 3
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Chris Edwards threw three touchdowns as Washington & amp; Jefferson beat Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game.
Edwards threw for 254 yards and completed 14 of 25 passes for the W & amp;J, which entered the game ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division III. The Presidents are 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
Paul Barsotti kicked a 19-yard field goal in the second quarter to put Bethany (0-7, 0-4) on the scoreboard.
Brian Wineberg threw 125 yards and completed 15 of 31 passes for Bethany. But Wineberg had the ball intercepted by W & amp;J's Ryan Graft, who returned it 82 yards for a score in the third.
Matt Bettinazzi ran for 106 yards for W & amp;J, averaging 8.8 yards a carry.
Edwards hit Aaron Krepps, Marcus Huth and Mike Virgin for his three touchdowns.
Waynesburg 45, Grove City 10
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Waynesburg (6-1, 3-0 PAC) forced six Grove City (3-4, 2-2) turnovers and amassed 472 yards of total offense offense in the PAC.
Waynesburg jumped out to a 14-0 lead and was in front 28-10 at the break.
As a team Grove City rushed 29 times for 61 yards while Waynesburg has 252 yards on the ground in 45 tries.
Baldwin-Wallace 51,Wilmington 0
BEREA -- Dan Larlham ran for 110 yards and a touchdown on four carries and threw two scoring passes to lead Baldwin-Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conferfence game.
Larlham completed 12 of 18 passes for 175 yards with touchdowns covering 10 yards to Nate Wilder (Cardinal Mooney High) and 25 yards to Dave Erhman. Larlham also had a 79-yard touchdown run.
Mark Anders added touchdown runs of 13 and 17 yards for the Yellow Jackets (5-1, 4-1 OAC).
Deon Short caught seven passes for 101 yards for the Quakers (0-6, 0-5). Ricky Shifko completed 15 of 28 passes for 140 yards.
Edinboro 35, Clarion 6
CLARION, Pa. -- Matt Phillips ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns and Edinboro's defense forced three interceptions for the Fighting Scots in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division game.
Clarion (1-6, 0-2 PSAC-West) managed just two Mark Hofmeister field goals, a 23-yard thiump in the first half and a 33-yard connection in the second half. Clarion punted seven times and converted just two of 13 third downs, and Felton Woulard and Brad Reifsnyder combined to throw three interceptions.
Edinboro (5-2, 2-1) led 14-3 at the half on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Justin Bouch and Phillips' first touchdown run of 5 yards. Bouch was an efficient 13-for-22 for 226 yards, and one interception.
Carnegie Mellon 44,Case Reserve 16
PITTSBURGH -- Running backs Brad Stanley and Ricardo Clarke combined for 289 yards rushing and five touchdowns, as Carnegie Mellon won in the University Athletic Association opener.
Carnegie Mellon (4-2, 1-0) held the ball for nearly 39 minutes and held Case Western (4-2, 0-1) to just 72 yards rushing.
Clarke, the halfback, gave Carnegie Mellon a 14-0 lead after one quarter with touchdown runs of 7 and 4 yards. He finished the day with 120 yards on 26 carries.
