Man crashes SUV while fleeing, police say

SALEM -- Police said a Continental Drive man was taken to Cleveland Metro Health Center after fleeing police and crashing his sport utility vehicle.
Police said a patrolman was on patrol and driving behind James E. Sielaff's Ford Explorer about 1:49 a.m. Sunday when Sielaff turned from State Street onto Park Drive and accelerated.
Police said Sielaff drove through Centennial Park on the grass and up a hill, where he struck a tree. He fled on Fair Avenue and was later found hiding in bushes in the 100 block of Fair Avenue.
Police said Sielaff, who had been injured, was taken to Salem Community Hospital and later transferred to Cleveland Metro. His age, the extent of his injuries and his status were unavailable. The crash is under investigation.
