During lecture, authorto discuss blizzard of '50
WARREN -- Author Roger Pickenpaugh will talk about the great blizzard of Nov. 23-27, 1950, during a lecture Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W, Warren.
Pickenpaugh's book "Buckeye Blizzard: Ohio and the 1950 Thanksgiving Storm" is filled with anecdotes from those who lived through the great storm. Pickenpaugh has also completed a book about the April 11, 1965, Palm Sunday tornado outbreak. He'll share slides and accounts from this deadly weather event. The outbreak of 37 tornadoes killed 265 people mostly in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Affected areas in Ohio were quickly declared disaster areas.
The author will be selling his books after the presentation. Pickenpaugh is also the author of "Rescue by Rail: Troop Transfer and the Civil War in the West 1863," a well-received look at the Civil War and railroad history.
The program is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. For more information on library programs and services, visit the Web site at www.wtcpl.lib.oh.us or call (330) 399-8807, Ext. 128.
