Pitt fan asks for endto favoritism of Penn State
Fanfare:
As a daily subscriber to The Vindicator, I take strong exception to the favoritism that you openly print on Penn State football compared to the Pittsburgh Panthers.
The PSU articles are placed many times on the first sports page, while Pitt has in the years past and present, recruited heavily far more from the Youngstown area then PSU and the much closer location wise of Pitt to PSU. Why is this?
Most likely, one or more of you are PSU alumni or have a grudge against Pitt.
This season especially will show PSU as having one of its worst seasons ever and still you slant the truth about its mediocrity.
I can see you writing favorably about OSU football, but not PSU over Pitt.
I am a very longtime avid fan of Pitt football teams and if any team that beats PSU football teams, let's write fairly from now on.

Reynolds' heinous act condemned by alumnus
Fanfare:
When Jim Tressel, his coaches and the entire Ohio State team view the films of the game at Wisconsin, they will hopefully be appalled and ashamed as I was by the un-sportsmanlike (downright dirty) conduct of their defensive back No. 44 [Robert] Reynolds.
Though the officials obviously missed the heinous act, millions of ESPN viewers didn't.
The play was re-run several times as the commentators pointed out the fact that Reynolds had put his finger through the Wisconsin quarterback's (Jim Sorgi) face mask and pressed hard upon his larynx (voice box) such that he could not breath and was subsequently rendered mute.
He never returned to the game. That was almost a murderous act.
Had (Sorgi) remained in the game, the Buckeye's would have lost by a greater margin that 17-10. He had been directing their offense brilliantly and (Reynolds) knew well that OSU had little chance of stopping him short of putting him out of commission.
This causes Mo Clarett's sins to pale in comparison.
As an alumnus of the OSU med-school, I have faithfully watched Buckeye football for over 50 years. In all that time, I never saw any player perform so blatantly cruel as Reynolds did.
That is not typical of a Jim Tressel-coached player and a message should be sent around the NCAA that mauling a quarterback on the bottom of a pile will not be tolerated.
Reynolds should be stripped of his jersey and his scholarship.
