HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER Mooney girls breeze to sectional crown with 10-0 win



The Cardinals got goals from nine different players against Maplewood.
STRUTHERS -- Nine players scored goals as the Cardinal Mooney High girls soccer team captured a Division II sectional title Saturday by defeating Maplewood, 10-0.
Nine different players registered goals for the Cardinals who are now 12-5-1. Marisa Simon led the way with two goals for the Cardinals (12-5-1).
Kelli Willis, Nomiki Frangopoulos, Kelly Burke, Colleen Zajac, Kara Joseph, Bridget Crogan, Kacie Kubik and Vickie Dreiling also scored.
Simon has 19 assists
Joseph chalked up two assists while Simon's assist gives her 19 on the season, which is third best among Div. II players and fourth best among all players in Ohio.
Also tallying assists were Kubik, Frangopoulos, Tina Sheridan, Jamie Matteo and Brittany Jones.
Cardinal goalkeeper Veronica Skowron made no saves in the first half while Natalie Humphreys made one in the second half as they combined for the team's 10th shutout.
Hubbard 1, Warren JFK 0
WARREN -- Midway through the second half, center-forward Christina Adams scored from about 7 yards out for Hubbard (10-8).
Lisa Jugenheimer assisted on the goal.
Mooney will play at Hubbard Tuesday at 7 p.m.
JFK (7-5-4) was seeded second.
Poland 5, Badger 0
POLAND -- Freshman Maureen Malone scored three goals for the Bulldogs (12-3-2). Britt Davis and Britt Dorbish netted the others.
Davis, Emily Sutcliffe, Liz Rothenberg and Krista Ginnetti had assists while goalkeepers Landry Yankle and Samantha Stanich each made two saves.
Badger (13-3-1) goalkeeper Kristen Smith made seven saves.
Tuesday at 7 p.m., Poland will be at home to play Ursuline or Champion in a district semifinal.
