PREP SOCCER Ursuline moves into district with 4-2 victory



Champion's John Emery set the school scoring record against Newton Falls.
STRUTHERS -- Seung Min Paik scored two goals and had an assist as Ursuline High defeated Maplewood 4-2 for a Division III sectional title Thursday at Valley Sports.
Dan Craig and Ryan Novotny scored the other goals for the Irish (5-11-2), with Novotny's coming on an assist from Nick Chaney.
Jeremy Mohorick and Brian Hivick each scored a goal for the Rockets (11-5-2).
Ursuline had 16 shots on goal, compared to nine for Maplewood.
Goalkeeper Jerad Daly had eight saves for Ursuline, while Dustin Slusher had six saves.
Ursuline will travel to Badger in a district semifinal Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Kinsman Park.
Badger 7, Cardinal 0
KINSMAN -- Senior Kyle Arnold scored three goals for Badger, while Anthony Mancini added two goals and Brad Panak and Ty Brothers had one apiece.
Zack Pettitt had two assists for the Braves (13-3-2). Eric Klingemier and Joe Meloni each had one.
Badger had 20 shots on goal, compared to five for Cardinal (3-15).
Champion 5, Newton Falls 0
CHAMPION -- John Emery scored three goals for the Golden Flashes (16-1) in the first half and set the school scoring record for a season with 27.
Matt Brugler and Rob Gavazzi added a goal apiece for Champion.
Zach Gumont had two assists, while Mike Harrison and Kreig Brugler each had one.
Champion had 18 shots on goal, compared to three for Newton Falls (8-8-1).
Champion goalkeeper Jason Black, who had three saves, recorded his 13th shutout of the season. Brent Davis had 16 saves for the Tigers.
Bristol 2, Columbiana 1
COLUMBIANA -- Matt Hinkle and Eric Maraczi each scored a goal for Bristol.
Deric Graft scored the goal for the Clippers. Brian Glick had 41 defensive stops, Nick Sposato 29 and Julie Casacchia 26.
Columbiana's goalie, Dave Cramer, had eight saves.
CVCA 6, United 0
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Kai Kasiguran scored three goals to pace the Royals (17-0-2).
David McMullen, Spencer Burke and Zachary DiPaolo each added one for the state's top-ranked team in the coaches poll.
The Royals had 31 shots on goal. United (7-10-1) goalkeeper Evan Egli had 18 saves.
Division II
STRUTHERS -- Kiki Willis scored four goals in the first half as Mooney defeated Salem 8-0.
D.J Myers and Dom DiPasquale both added a goal and had two assists for the Cardinals (16-0-1).
Christo Frangopoulos and Zack Hernan added a goal apiece.
Mooney had 13 shots on goal, compared to four for the Quakers. Salem goalkeeper Andrew Loudon had five saves.
Jeff Seddon of the Cardinals had four saves and recorded his eighth shutout of the season.
Poland 1, West Branch 0
STRUTHERS -- Poland scored the only goal with 16:46 to go in the first half when Dain Malaniak passed to Steve Gavolas.
The Bulldogs (11-6) will play Mooney in a district semifinal Monday.
Canfield 7, Liberty 0
CANFIELD -- Matt Pietro and Rob Kime scored two goals apiece, while Mark Beezy and Patrick Todd each had one, for Canfield.
Junior Scott Sidel also scored once.
Pietro also had three assists, while Rob Kime and Andy Davis had one apiece. Goalie Andrew Turocy had three saves.
Canfield will play host to Howland Monday.
Howland 4, Hubbard 0
HUBBARD -- Cody Chappell had two goals, while Neil Clagett and Lucas Martorana added one goal each to lead Howland, which built a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Marc Dunbar added two assists for the Tigers (12-2-3), while Jeff Copp and Jason Stan had one each.
Howland goalies Zack Roscoe and Eric Baker had three saves and one save, respectively.
Hubbard (7-8-2) goalie Aaron Sebera had nine saves.
Div. I
CANTON -- Bill Davis, Brian Katz and Jordan Winters all scored during a shootout, as Boardman defeated Canton GlenOak 5-3 in a sectional final.
Boardman goalie Jeremy Winters made a key save in the shoot-out.
The score was tied 2-2 in regulation play. Jeremy Winters and Brian Katz scored Boardman's goals.
Andres Arslaugha and Mike Forchetti scored for the Eagles.
