WARREN -- The Rev. David L. Herron Sr., pastor of Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ and CEO of the Community Family Outreach Complex in Warren, was selected to be a commissioner on the Church of God in Christ Constitutional Committee.
The Constitutional Convention Commissioner Selection Committee chose him to serve on the trustee commission board.
The Rev. Mr. Herron, who serves on numerous boards in Ohio's Central Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, attended the convention Sept. 15 to 19 in St. Louis, Mo. The convention was called to address structural, maintenance and policy concerns about the constitution of the Church of God in Christ International. Based in Memphis, Tenn., it has a membership of 8 million and is the largest organized black Pentecostal body in the world.
MVAC fund-raiser set
BOARDMAN -- Taste of the Faiths Festival, sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches, will be Monday at St. Charles Church. Hors d'oeuvres and an auction begin at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6, and entertainment by the Youngstown Connection at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and can be bought at the door. Music minister named
AUSTINTOWN -- Garry Adair, a music teacher at Frank Ohl Middle School, has been selected as the director of music ministries at the Austintown Community United Church of Christ.
Adair has taught music in grades five through seven and choir in grades six through eight for the past 29 years at the school. He has also directed church choirs throughout the Youngstown area since 1970. His duties will include organizing a hand-bell choir and a youth praise band and directing the sanctuary choir, along with supporting the adult praise band.

New book offered
TULSA, Okla. -- Mary Morris of Tulsa, Okla., has written a book, "Single and Wanting to Be Married: Is There Anything Too Hard for the Lord?" The graduate of East High School in Youngstown said her book is mainly a resource for Christian singles that exposes myths that present being single as God's choice. The book also quotes Scripture to encourage singles to receive the mate from God that they desire. Morris said the book arose out of questions she had during a Bible study; she then conducted interviews and designed the book to address the questions of the average single person. NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Dr. Dave Walker, a former meteorologist at WFMJ Channel 21, will speak at Calvary Temple Worship Center at 6 p.m. Sunday. Walker will discuss the biblical and scientific evidence in the creation vs. evolution debate.
