Pair plaid with unorthodox for cool kilt

NEW YORK (AP) -- Plaid skirts are a fall classic.
Little girls wear kilts to school, women wear them to work and even men have been known to put a kilt on -- at least occasionally -- as evidenced in the upcoming Metropolitan Museum of New York exhibit "Bravehearts: Men in Skirts."
To keep the look modern, Melody Harris Jensbach, design director for Esprit's women's division, suggests wearing the very traditional garment with something unexpected.
"Esprit's mini kilt skirt is worn low on the hip. Try pairing it with a cool biker jacket," Jensbach says.
Stiletto heels or a very long sweater would also have that edgy effect, she adds.
Other ideas for kilt coordinates are:
U A black T-shirt as a nod to 1980s punk.
UA white blouse and loafers to finish the preppy look.
UAll boots for a polished-yet-urban vibe.
