U.N. Day discussion
YOUNGSTOWN -- The United Nations Chapter of Youngstown will hold a dinner at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Youngstown Club in honor of United Nations Day.
Bob Black, anchor for WFMJ-TV news, the Rev. Jim Ray and David Porter, a Youngstown State University political science professor, will participate in a panel discussion on the role of the United States in the United Nations, and the U.N.'s future.
Dinner reservations must be made by Wednesday by calling Mary B. Smith at (330) 743-2710.
Trustees to meet
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township trustees will have a special meeting at 7:30 tonight at the township administration building, 3475 E. South Range Road, to discuss representation on the solid waste policy board.
Poland and Smith township trustees also will attend.
Orchestra concert
BOARDMAN -- The award-winning Boardman High School Symphony, Chamber and Classical orchestras will present their annual Fall Pops Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Boardman Performing Arts Center at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave.
The orchestra program numbers more than 230 students.
Theme for the evening will be "A Visit To Spain," featuring Spanish and Latin-style music for orchestra.
Admission is a donation of $3 for adults and $1 for students. Preschool children and senior citizens are admitted free.
Special Olympics
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Special Olympics Pennsylvania will have its 11th annual Western Fall Sectional on Sunday at Slippery Rock University.
The event features competition in long distance running and walking, powerlifting, soccer, volleyball and boccie.
Opening ceremonies are at 9:15 a.m. at Morrow Fieldhouse, and competition will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
