Fostoria High School cancels remainder of football season

FOSTORIA (AP) -- For the first time in the 80-year history of the Fostoria St. Wendelin football program, the Mohawks won't finish the season.
Administrators decided not to play the final two games because of a rash of injuries that has reduced the team to just 14 available players.
"This has been one of the toughest decisions I've had to make as an administrator," Principal David Lang said. "Our kids have given everything they've got but with 14 players it becomes a safety issue.
"We have some very young and inexperienced players that would have to be on the field and their safety is our primary concern."
Players learned of the decision on Tuesday.
"Honestly, we just cried. This is among one of the worst days of my life," senior Tim Gregory said. "I know our numbers were down but I still can't believe we're not finishing the season."
Fostoria is about 35 miles southeast of Toledo.
