LEETONIA -- Water will be shut off at 9 a.m. Wednesday to village water customers on Columbia Street east of Mill Street and on Cherry Fork Avenue, Wilson Street, Empire Street and East High Street. Street crews are replacing a fire hydrant at Cherry and Columbia streets. Village Administrator Gary Phillips said the water will be off until the hydrant is replaced. When water service is restored, customers affected by the shutoff will experience low water pressure and volume until the system stabilizes, he said. Customers on the south side of the village will experience discolored water for a few days. All customers whose water is shut off will be under an order to boil drinking water until further notice, he said.
ATV theft in Hermitage
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police said someone pried a doorknob from a garage door in the 800 block of South Hermitage Road to steal an All-Terrain Vehicle parked inside. The red 2001 Polaris Scrambler 500 was taken between 11 a.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday.
Obscenity conviction
PITTSBURGH -- A Slippery Rock man was sentenced to five months in prison, followed by five months' home detention and three years' supervised released on his conviction of receipt of obscene matters. United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti sentenced William Dublin, 62, of Ralston Road, Slippery Rock, on Friday in federal court. According to information presented in court, from September 2002 to February 2003, Dublin downloaded more than 250 photographs of minor boys engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The photos included images of adults engaging in sadistic and masochistic activities with young boys. The judge also ordered Dublin to undergo a mental health evaluation by a specialist who treats sex offenders.
Rape, other sex charges
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Donnie Larry Dreher, 45, of Wayne Avenue was charged with rape and three counts of involuntary deviate sexual assault. Police arrested Dreher at 11:45 a.m. Friday after a 20-year-old woman came to police and told them she had been assaulted at Dreher's home. Dreher was arraigned before District Justice Samuel Battaglia and placed in jail after failing to pay $25,000 bond.
English's office moves
ERIE, Pa. -- U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd, has moved his Erie office from the federal court building to the Erie Intermodal Transportation Center on the Bayfront Parkway. The move is part of his commitment to Erie's waterfront and the region's economic development, English said. The new location is Suite 102 at the Intermodal Transportation Center, 208 E. Bayfront Parkway. The telephone number remains the same at (814) 456-2038.
Halloween parade, party
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The New Middletown Fire Department is sponsoring the annual Halloween parade and party from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Municipal Building.
City Slag site vandalized
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police said vandals caused extensive damage at City Slag at 300 Ohio St. by dumping diesel fuel and used motor oil and smashing windows. About 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a tank after the vandals opened a valve sometime over the weekend. An additional five to 10 gallons in a barrel was dumped onto the ground, as were about 20 gallons of used oil in a separate container. The vandals broke eight windows in an excavator and a window in the generator room and dented a trailer with rocks. They also tore two emergency shut-off switches from a post, police said.
Patio furniture stolen
SALEM -- Patio furniture valued at about $160 was stolen from a home in the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue, and a compact-disc player and compact discs worth about $170 were taken from a vehicle parked outside an apartment building in the 2100 block of Monroe Street, police said. The thefts were reported Monday at 9:29 a.m. and noon, respectively.
